Acco Theatre Center

The Acco Theater Center (ATC) in Israel blazes innovative trails in the realm of social theatre, striving to forge strong alliances between Arab and Jewish artists, offering alternative paradigms and encouraging open and fruitful expression within the larger society. ATC was founded in 1983 by a group of artists who came from the center of Israel to Acre to take part in the Acre Festival.

The Center’s founders have two main goals: to create an original Israeli theatrical language and to work with the community. Over the years, the Center’s staff developed a unique, groundbreaking, innovative language that is esteemed both in Israel and abroad. The Center’s plays are in demand at the world’s most prestigious festivals and have won numerous prizes. Jewish and Arab artists work together at the Center in total harmony, thereby embodying the essence of coexistence. Plays such as Arbeit Macht Frei, Memories of the second generation, Arab Dream and WishUponAStar have left their mark on the global theater arena.
