Wafa’a Celine Halawi

Wafa’a Celine Halawi (Lebanon) graduated from the Lebanese American University (LAU), then pursued her studies at the New York Film Academy before completing her M.A. in Film at University College in London. After working at Pinewood Studios (UK) she directed 6 shorts, including the dance films We Might As Well and Salt in My Nose, which were  selected to be shown at the Cinedans Festival Amsterdam,  the Lebanese Film Festival, and at JABAL 2013. Wafa’a ‘s first feature script Cello was selected for the ‘Scene Insiders’ at Gothenburg Film Festival 2010, won 1st prize for Feature development at the ENGAGE workshop by MEDIA, and was selected for the Cinema Development Fund at Cinemed 2012.

Wafa’a currently lives in Beirut, where she teaches Filmmaking and Art of Film at the LAU. She has recently shot a dance video with KAFA in support of the law to protect women against domestic violence, as well as the  dance film Can You and I Really Dance Together?
