Wasim Ghrioui

Wasim Ghrioui (1981, Syria) is a multidisciplinary artist working within visual art, writing, music, directing and filmmaking. Between 1998 – 2011 he participated in group and solo exhibitions in Syria, the Arab world and internationally. In 2012 he left Syria due to the ongoing conflict, and has lived and worked in Berlin since 2013.

His current artistic emphasis lies on autobiographical writing, taking the shape of experimental theater as well as filmmaking. Since the last 2 years he has been teaching “artist training for professionals” at the UdK. Ghrioui is also one of the main artist in the “trickmish”-team, who is giving art classes in several German secondary schools.

Ghrioui’s last participatory art performance TIN PIT focuses on personal stories from the life in Syria before the revolution. The piece has been shown in its original version in Braunschweig, Hildesheim, Göttingen, Hannover, and as reading in several other cities.
