Report of Meet the Artist #2

What art is being made by a young, new generation of Middle Eastern artists? How can we create a sustainable connection between the artists, the professional field and the audience? And how do we reflect on the accessibility of the European cultural sector? These were some of the questions raised during the second edition of Meet the Artist #2 on the 21st of January. After a short residency at Het Huis Utrecht, four artists showed some of their work-in-progress and ideas for new work.

After a warm welcome by Dancing on the Edge director Natasja van ‘t Westende, the audience enjoyed an afternoon visiting the four artists’ studios. Farah Saleh, Youness Aboulakoul, Muhcine Ennou and Hilda Moucharrafieh each had their own presentations after which the audience was invited to reflect or interact with the work. The day ended with a closing talk with the artists and the audience moderated by Chris Keulemans and Mohamed Fouad presenting his solo work Without Damage.

Scroll down for an impression of the day and keep an eye out for Meet the Artist #3, scheduled for November 2019!
