Morocco: Gwana featuring Mahmoud Guinea, in collaboration with Beeld voor Beeld – Documentary Film Festival on Cultural Diversity

This film documents a night of trance (‘Lila de Derdeba’) at the home of Mahmoud Guinea, one of the greatest Gnawa MaĆ¢lemin from Morocco. Gnawa music was brought to northern Africa by slaves from sub-Saharan countries and combines chants with exciting rhythms. The ceremony, which is both religious and therapeutic, is filmed from its preparation (purchase of the animal that will be sacrificed) until sunrise the next day.
