A Ticket to Atlantis

(LEBANON/SYRIA/THE NETHERLANDS)

An immersive and site-specific performance at the sea side

What if the sea could remember? What if she had a voice? What would she tell us about the bodies that have sailed, swum, fished and drowned in her? Departing from these questions, A Ticket to Atlantis explores the relationship between the human body and the sea. It takes the audience on a search for lightness, a state where we can let go of the burden and weight of our identity. The performance departs from experiences and images of migrants who tried to cross shores, and wonders: what can the ancient myth of Atlantis, the lost and sunken city, tell us about the search for a safe haven?

These questions result in a multi-disciplinary performance, which intertwines documentary elements and poetic fictional elements that inspire the movement, the visuals and the text. The performance is an encounter with the unknown, with utopia, with solitude, with nature and with the self.

A practical note: A Ticket to Atlantis takes place on one of The Netherlands’ most beautiful stages: the beach of The Hague. Besides being breathtaking, this stage may also be cold during Dutch fall. We will take the necessary measures to keep you warm. Nonetheless we advise you to dress for the cold and sandy floors and check our website for updates in the days prior to the performance.
