Listening to Seeds

Reading Room

Nour Osseiran (TAP), Ian Nesbitt

Wednesday 29 March 2023 | 19:00 – 21:00 CET | Online

We are opening Listening to Seeds by taking the time to listen to the reading of two texts in an intimate online setting, to listen to how they resonate with us, and to exchange thoughts and associations based on what emerges.

A Space of Care is a new text written by Ian Nesbitt in resonance with the year of listening. Nour Osseiran will read a text by Vivien Sansour from the publication A few things we learned about Art, Ecology & The Commons by Temporary Art Platform (TAP).

The texts will be published after the session in the online DOTE Magazine.

My first visit to Imwad was in April of last year. As I walked around the ‘park’ with my friends, our guide shared a map that was drawn from survivors’ memories. Dots and lines marked the homes of families of the village. But while our guide was pointing out all the locations where houses once stood, my eyes wandered to where some native trees had survived. These indigenous almond and pomegranate shoots, which can go easily unnoticed in a sea of pine trees, were making their way to life.

As I walked through Grief and then Entanglement, my sense of the pilgrimage became less dramatic, less heroic, tending, even, towards the pathetic, without the attendant self-pity. My attention shifted away from wrestling with problems and identifying solutions towards making space for noticing, listening and ‘becoming with’. In short, I was growing a space of care.
