DOTE Lab Call Out

Imagining our future, practicing our future

Dancing on the Edge is deconstructing the festival format to offer a better opportunity to meet and interact on a deeper level. With projects that focus on process and time spent together, that are co-curated or made as a collective. With alternative places that allow for another kind of interaction and a crossing of disciplines, and where the festival exists only when we all engage.

We would like to invite you to be part of DOTE Lab, a 4-day artistic lab at the heart of the festival, where festival artists, theatre and dance students, and interested members of festival audience come together in an open studio space for an intimate encounter of each other’s working processes and artistic material. It is imagined as an open space: vulnerable, experimental, generous and done with care.  As a space to take time, to support each other’s processes and to inspire each other’s work. It is a great privilege and investment to come together during a festival and embrace our multiple roles as artists, as spectators, and as festival.

This year, and with this lab, DOTE focuses on imagining collaboratively how the festival can assume more radical forms of feeding and supporting artists’ practice beyond ‘showcasing’ them. How to create communities and solidarity among artists? And how to write alternative multiple and inclusive narratives and futures together through our exchange and practices?

Each day will be co-curated and facilitated by participating artists, such as Hooman Sharifi, Onur Karaoğlu, Khalid Benghrib, Hoor Malas, Mayar Alexan, Hilda Moucharrafieh, Ramzi Choukair, Youness Aboulakoul.

Mezrab Nights
Evenings of performances, storytelling and music will follow the DOTE Lab on 17, 19 and 20 November at Mezrab, Amsterdam. A program bringing together local performers and festival performers with spectators who would like to jam or use the open mic.
