Meet the DOTE Scholarship dancers for 2019!

We are excited to announce and congratulate the two selected dancers of the DOTE Scholarship 2019, Chourouk El-Mahati (Morocco) and Salem Abdelbasset (Algeria). Check out the video below with a brief introduction. Both of them will come to Amsterdam to participate in the Amsterdam Summer Intensive of the Henny Jurriëns Foundation from 6 till 26 July 2019.

Based in Morocco, Chourouk El Mahati (1992) discovered dance at the age of 20 with Al Mokhtabar II 2011/2012, organized by Cie Anania and led by Taoufiq Izzediou. Her career as a dancer included several workshops, internships and residencies in Morocco and Europe, led by international choreographers like Bernardo Montet, Mathilde Monier, Carmen Blanco principal, Michel Hallet Eghayan, Pierre Droulers, and others. Recently, Chourouk performed the Ballet Gnawa Lhaal and Hunna by Khalid Benghrib with Cie 2kfar, Cie Humaine’s Checkpoint by Eric Oberdorff. From May 2019, Chourouk is rehearsing for Border-line by Taoufiq Izzediou.

Salem Abdelbasset (1993) is a dancer based in Algeria. Coming from an art-loving family, he says, his choice to pursue a career in dance was obvious. He started dancing with the well-known Algerian IDAMI COMPANY, where he developed his classical and contemporary dance skills. From October 2018, Salem was chosen to participate as an artist in WORLD YOUTH FORUM EGYPT.

During three weeks the dancers will work intensively on their dance skills, by participating in technique classes and workshops given by  teachers representing the most important companies and styles in today’s contemporary dance world. At the end of each workshop week there will be informal open showings at HJS that can be attended free of charge (dates to be announced).
