El-Funoun is the most prominent Palestinian folk dance company in the world. In recent years, they have been increasingly open to influences from contemporary dance. Andre Gingras, director of Dance Works Rotterdam, was interested in teaching in the region for some time.
Gingras carefully considered how to introduce new techniques and ways of thinking about choreography while respecting the background and dance tradition of El-Funoun.
