Balloons (2012)

Moataz Nasr

In this installation, the omnipresence of a Big Brother that aims to control lives and thoughts is represented by balloons. They block the view, obstruct, and prevent us from seeing what is happening further away. A way through them must be cleared in order to get to a more open space. The Egyptian visual artist Moataz Nasr works with the tension between the visible and the invisible, as well as with the age-old opposition between the principle of desire and that of reality. These dichotomies oblige Egyptian people to carry out a permanent renegotiation of their daily situation.
