The Possibilities and Impossibilities of Art as a ‘Free Zone’

Chris Keulemans / Artists from the festival

It has become common to speak of art as building blocks for creating a dialogue between cultures. One of the ambitions of Dancing in the Edge Festival is to use art (in this case, dance) to show a different view of the Middle East – one that creates understanding for the complexity in the region.
The reality of the situation, however, is that art is in many cases anything but a safe haven, as there are social restrictions, and taboos and political situations make dialogue and cooperation impossible.

Chris Keulemans will speak to artists from the festival and to Dutch artists and policy-makers about the possibilities and impossibilities of art as a free zone.
