A Place to Dwell
Tuning In

Wednesday 7th - Tuesday 27th June

The year of listening has been about making spaces for the connections between us and all of our stories. We have found ourselves creating performance spaces where collective narratives can emerge. The closing program of the year of listening is in two parts:

A Place to Dwell, a performance that stretches over a week and takes place in multiple and overlapping geographies and languages. Wherever in the world each individual participant walks, listens and connects their story.

Tuning In, a participative dance & voice performance in Amsterdam, ‘reclaiming’ togetherness in public space, making the web between us visible.

A Place to Dwell

A week-long performance, 21-27 June 2023, wherever you are in the world

A Place to Dwell is a web of walkers, listeners and voices. It is a performance that can carry many narratives and hold every participant’s stories, wherever you are.
The performance develops over 7 days, repeating a two-part structure daily:

*An audio piece/proposition to listen to each day while you walk, wherever you are in the world.
*A ritual of coming together in the online Listening Space every evening, giving voice to different perspectives.

Each audio piece has been authored/translated & recorded in Dutch, Arabic, Italian or English. The Listening Spaces are multiple language spaces.

We started the year of listening by walking, and are revisiting some of the audios with which we started the year. Others are new. Where are we now? What has changed? All the audios are propositions. They engage with our surroundings as we walk, and provide a common starting point in the Listening Space every evening.

Individual choreographies emerge as we walk and listen. Our local (urban) landscapes weave into scenographies, embodying different scars of our colonial and extractive living histories. ‘A Place to Dwell’ becomes a question in the Listening Spaces.

Open participation workshops from 7 June

Tuning In is a participative and process-led body & voice performance project in Amsterdam, which takes its inspiration from the connection and expression of the pelvis in relation to our core and the capacity of our voices connect to each other by listening. It will be created through a series of collaborative workshops with choreographer Shaymaa Shoukry & composer Ahmed Saleh. Moving from our core, and caried by Saleh’s immersive live composition, we’ll use our bodies and voices as tools of expression to ‘tune in’ to ourselves and each other. Tuning In the performance is a celebration of togetherness in public space.
