This piece focuses on people in relation to identity. Before making the piece, Vilhena and Shafik came to an agreement that they were not interested in expressing what makes the one European and the other Egyptian. They found these labels were merely tools of people management.
Nevertheless, strong cultural differences came out during the process of creating the piece. In the end it became a piece about ‘identity on the borders of language, geography, and culture.’
This dance-theater performance premiered in Cairo at the D-CAF (Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival) in April 2012 and was show in a double-bill with Come as You Are in the Netherlands in the fall of 2012.
