Witness of the Body

Mohamed Shafik

Witness of the Body is a trio for three men is accompanied by the sound artist, Mahmoud Refat. The piece was originally created for the opening of the Art Centre of the Alexandria Library and has been reworked for the Dancing on the Edge Festival. It reflects the struggle with questions of identity for those who live in two cultures, and the need to find a witness of one’s being through the eyes of the stranger. This sensitive and powerful dance work deals with how externally imposed borders and limitations affect the self-image.
