Wihad Suleiman

Wihad Suleiman (1988) is a director and author from Syria. In 2012, she graduated from the prestigious Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus in the fields of directing and acting. After her apprenticeship she worked i.a. as a trainer in an interactive theater project.

She is a participant in the “New Writing for Theater” project at London’s Royal Court Theater. As part of this funding program, the piece Existence was written, which was also translated into English and German. Another of her own dramatic lyrics, Sealed, was staged at a women’s prison in Damascus. One of her theoretical works is A deep Transformation in the ego from 2014.

In 2015, Suleiman spent half a year at the Theater an der Ruhr as part of a sponsorship program run by the Goethe-Institut. In February 2017, her own version of the myth Medea premiered at the Great House of the Theater Oberhausen.
